I've had an EVGA 3090 that functions well, but after a repaste and reapplication, temperatures rose temporarily before dropping back. Once I disassembled it, I found excess paste residue. Using Noctua NT-H2 initially helped, then I switched to Hydronaut as suggested on Discord. Recently, temperatures have increased again, particularly at the hotspot. I'm taking out my GPU now and checking for possible mistakes—am I over-tightening the rear bracket?

Always operate the 3090 at maximum speed and it will stay hot enough to shrink during the next expansion cycle, which is the main reason for the pump failure.

Thermal changes lead to expansion and contraction, which affects performance. The PTM7950 performed well with my 6800 XT, though it needed higher mounting pressure compared to using paste alone because of the thin coating.

Kryosheets are likely even more delicate; they’d just disintegrate in your grip due to their thinness. I don’t have a PTM7950 yet, but I’m thinking about swapping the TIM on my RTX 4090 in a few years.

They're about the same thickness. I used both, but needed to boost the clamping force on both. The Kryosheet is significantly simpler to install compared to PTM.

I tried it once and it failed. The second time it worked faster with just a few tiny air pockets, so I went ahead and installed the GPU. Temperatures look normal now. Before that I had around 80°C on the core and 105°C at the hotspot, but the memory connection seems to be an issue. Did I misplace a pad or push too hard on the VRAM?
