I click the CS:GO icon on my desktop, and the Steam console displays "Preparing to launch Count-Strike Global Offensive." The game launches in full screen with a background image of counter-terrorists. It starts to blur before stopping completely. I waited for updates for an hour without any progress. When I press the Windows key, returning to my desktop, I click the icon at the bottom to start the game again. It opens normally, showing news and other info. The main cursor moves quickly behind where I scroll. After roughly two seconds, it freezes at its last position, making it difficult to control. This happens every time I try pressing Windows key to restart. I’ve checked forums for solutions but haven’t found anything useful. I’ve reinstalled Steam multiple times and even downloaded the game again, but the issue persists. Before this started, the game worked perfectly. I also posted on the Steam forum, but it seems many old complaints are already there.

Hehe...no big surprise, steam forums seem pretty pointless these days. Regarding your issue, since you've already reinstalled CS several times, checking the game cache likely won't help much. It could be a GPU driver problem—try reinstalling those drivers and see if it improves things. Otherwise, just restarting your game or computer should usually fix it.

Do you own an Nvidia GPU? If yes, navigate to GeForce Experience and experiment with the settings, such as resolution, to see if it improves performance.

I've tested both of your suggestions, thank you. I loaded Dota 2 with all settings at the lowest or off level, and it behaved similarly to CS:GO. This suggests my GPU might be the cause. Great job, and happy to hear the 1080 is a good upgrade!

Is your GPU still covered under warranty? If yes, you should have it fixed or upgraded.

It's unlikely. I've been using it for a while now, so I'll take a closer look.

It's disappointing, but knowing the reason is a positive outcome.
