Problems with charging your MacBook Pro
Problems with charging your MacBook Pro
You're experiencing a charging issue with your MacBook Pro when connected to the docking station. The system shows it's "Plugged in, Not Charging" and quickly drains. You tried a higher wattage brick (100W vs 87W), but it only slowed the discharge a bit. Apple warns against using more than 100W to avoid damaging the charging circuitry. Consider checking the docking station's power adapter for compatibility or trying a different one. Also, ensure your MacBook is properly seated in the dock and that the cables are secure. If the problem persists, you might want to consult Apple Support or a technician.
It may work correctly on macOS, but there could be unusual behavior if Windows is installed on your Mac. Check for compatibility issues or conflicts.
MacOS manages to disable the AMD GPU and switch to the integrated graphics, while Windows consistently relies on the high-power dedicated GPU. This behavior likely contributes to its power-saving advantages.
Windows should let you choose the specific GPU to use, even if it only identifies one. The charging problem with my MBP was fixed by using a different cable, and I haven’t tested running Windows on my device.
Bootcamp Windows 10 only detects the AMD graphics card. Installing Intel GPU drivers leads the installer to inform you it doesn’t have an Intel GPU.
It could very well be a compatibility issue between Windows and macOS.
Connect all your peripherals to the dock and connect the Mac to the power adapter included with your MacBook. This will supply power to your peripherals, while the adapter charges your Mac directly.
