I acquired a new motherboard for my main PC to upgrade to a faster CPU. It’s an Asus A320M-K with built-in Realtek audio. I noticed a frustrating problem with the audio drivers in Windows 10. The sound functions with the Microsoft-authored Realtek drivers, but after restarting, the drivers switch to a Realtek version, which stops the audio. Windows appears normal, yet I don’t hear anything from my speakers. To get back to the original drivers, I had to remove the Realtek ones in Device Manager and reboot, letting Windows install the Microsoft version automatically. However, if I restart again, it reverts to Realtek and the audio fails once more. I’ve already tried reinstalling the Asus driver, but it didn’t help. Anyone have any advice?

Select your motherboard vendor drivers and apply them. This should prevent Windows updates from interfering.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely keep this in mind for later. I just mentioned “screw it” and ended up getting a Bluetooth adapter for my computer, which I’m now using with my Bluetooth speaker. It sounds much better than before!
