I believe it's a poor decision to replace a fully functional computer simply because Microsoft has made another mistake... Perhaps you should clarify the alternatives, highlighting the environmental consequences (there is one, and it's significant) and noting that the difference between a cheap OEM license and a costly Microsoft one isn't substantial. Plus, the license she already possesses might be sufficient (though I'm not confident about that). I purchased mine from Amazon for around $3.50, and it's performing adequately (though you might encounter issues if you change your motherboard). Even then, you could potentially reactivate it through Microsoft, but that's unlikely. It's just $3.50, right? Today I think eBay offers the best opportunity... These licenses are rarely stolen (how?) because they're often surplus, which explains their low prices.
