Problems reported with the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-46 gaming laptop include performance issues and hardware malfunctions.
Hello there, I’m reaching out for help with some persistent issues I’ve been facing on my Acer Nitro AN515-46 gaming laptop. It’s been about a year and a half, and lately things have started to behave oddly. Here’s what I’m seeing:
While gaming or using virtual machines, the fans kick into high gear as CPU temps hit 95°C. This triggers a BSOD with the error “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.” The machine freezes onto a blue screen, fans spin nonstop, and I’m forced to power it down manually. Restarting doesn’t work—my only option is to press the power button repeatedly for 20–30 seconds before shutting it off again.
After a BSOD, leaving it on for an hour usually gets it back online, but it will restart 2–5 times before booting normally. If I don’t restart, it only stalls briefly before the same error pops up again—even when I’m just browsing or using light tasks.
Some patterns stand out: BIOS resets to defaults, and the “Keyboard backlight off after 30 seconds” setting is active, so I have to turn it off manually each time. In Nitro Sense, I can adjust fan speeds for the first 15–20 minutes post-boot, but afterward I lose control over speed settings or mode changes, even with a charged battery and mains power.
Occasionally, the laptop boots normally after a BSOD without waiting an hour, but it stays unstable for just a few minutes before the same error returns—even during light usage. Every time this happens, I notice the system resets certain settings, like fan behavior and keyboard backlight, which I must disable each time.
Another problem is that the laptop struggles to POST after being off for 24+ hours. The screen stays black, fans spin briefly, but nothing works. I’m forced to press the power button to restart, then it restarts itself 2–5 times before finishing up.
I also face issues with sleep mode: it starts, but wakes up again after a few minutes, even when the lid is closed. The LED lights and keyboard glow, but the machine remains unresponsive. Pressing the power button to shut it down forces another restart, which then restarts 2–5 times.
Despite trying fixes—keeping drivers updated, running diagnostics, cleaning dust, reinstalling RAM, draining the battery, cleaning thermal paste—I still face the same BSODs and boot problems. The settings don’t reset properly, and fan control stops working after a while.
If you could help me understand what’s going on or suggest further steps, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
