Problems overclocking I5-6600K
I chose to boost my CPU's performance. This wasn't my first attempt, but I had some prior experience with GPU overclocking. Before beginning, I reviewed some fundamental guides, tutorials, and tips about CPU overclocking to understand the basics and assess my CPU's capabilities. It looked like my CPU (I5-6600K @ 3.3Ghz) could easily reach around 4.6GHz or at least move in that direction. Before proceeding, I wanted to verify this claim and adjusted the core ratio to 'Sync All Cores' with a Core Ratio Limit of 46. Everything appeared fine initially, so I saved and restarted the system. After launching CPU-Z and LinX, it still showed the core speed capped at 3.3GHz. To rule out software issues, I tried different monitoring tools, but they all reported the same result. I also checked the BIOS settings and slightly modified the core voltage and RAM frequency, which affected the outcome. I returned to the defaults and attempted to lower the ratio, but without success. After spending nearly a day searching, I still couldn't solve the issue and am now focusing on clearly describing the problem in hope for a resolution.
Yeah, I'm facing the same issue with my Asus Sabertooth Z170 S (0802 version). It might be on the side, but I edited the BCLK to 150 and adjusted the ratio from there. I messaged Asus after that, asking if they responded, and they replied with 4.65GHz. I'd like to try going higher without changing the BCLK settings.
EDIT: I'm checking if the recent BIOS updates are the cause and plan to downgrade to an older one.
Chris_256 continues discussing their issue with the Asus Sabertooth Z170 S (0802 version). They mention possible causes on the side and suggest editing BCLK to 150 and adjusting the ratio, which they attempted and communicated with Asus. They received a response of 4.65GHz after making those changes but are interested in increasing the speed without further BCLK edits. They plan to check if a recent BIOS update is the issue and consider downgrading to an older BIOS. Chenuki offers to help by clearing CMOS after disconnecting the battery and asks for feedback if it resolves the problem.
