Problems only on Windows systems
I've faced some issues with my internet speed and stability recently. After checking with the provider and modem, I noticed a discrepancy—my roommate had no problems while I did. I attempted port forwarding and Ethernet setup, but the issue continued. I then investigated whether the problem stemmed from hardware or software on my side. Since I'm using Ubuntu on a USB drive and launched the PC through it, I ended up experiencing the same performance issues as my housemates. This suggests a potential software-related problem tied to Windows. While formatting might be the quickest fix, I'm currently studying architecture and managing several download licenses plus multiple projects with temporary files. I’d appreciate any advice or troubleshooting steps you can offer before I reach that stage.
What connection method is being used for those speeds? If it's over Ethernet, ensure a direct link to the modem or router—not via powerline adapters or range extenders. Have you executed the netsh commands and performed a network reset? When testing speeds, confirm no background processes (like torrents or streaming) are using bandwidth. How does your network behave for others on the same LAN? Are any TCP/IP settings altered in Windows to affect internet connections? Consider running the speed test in another browser to see if results differ.
