I received a MacBook Pro (likely 2015) secondhand from my uncle. I booted into recovery mode to clear everything and reinstall it myself. After deleting the drive, I tried reinstalling again. During setup, an error pops up: "an error occurred while preparing the installation. try running this application again." I've tried erasing the drive and restarting, but nothing works. This is the only MacOS device in my home, so I can't just use a newer version. It's trying to install Sierra. Any advice or tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Consider adjusting the time settings. The installers are verified, but the signatures on older versions have lapsed. Confirmed that a 2015 macOS High Sierra is the most compatible release.

Yosemite represents the earliest operating system a 2015 MacBook Pro could support. macOS High Sierra launched in 2017, which is two years after these devices were made available.
