Problems accessing FTP on Windows ftpWindows troubleshooting
Hi, I’m currently away from home and everything was fine when I last configured my FTP server. I recently got a new laptop for school and travel, trying to test how it would work when I’m 15 hours away. FileZilla is functioning properly, but Windows File Explorer is having problems—maybe I pressed the wrong button. When I connect using the add network folder option, it doesn’t prompt for a username or password like before. I can’t access the server that way now. Could there be something I’m doing incorrectly, or is there an issue with my system?
Tried it with my Synology. It was my first time using the address with a subfolder: ftp://servername/folder. Even though I chose not to be anonymous, it managed to log in without asking for a password and blocked my computer after three failed attempts. I believe this happened because the login names on Windows and Synology match, or maybe because I had already mapped some SMB shares. After unblocking, the same error appeared. Then I made a new link without a subfolder—just ftp://servername—and it worked right away. Probably you don’t use a subfolder? The port 5550 seems suspicious to me. Not sure if this solves anything... What makes your laptop different from mine? Did you use the same Windows login, OS version, or FTP username?
I selected port 5550 and didn't enter any subfolders. Appreciate your response!
My brothers' laptop is a Lenovo Legion gaming machine while mine is an HP Envy X360. We're using the same Windows version, but I only have one FTP account to log in with. It worked fine for him when he tried it first, but now we're not the same user. I'm updating from 1909 to see if that helps, though both of us are still on 1909.
