Time: 00:00:68.0. I2C aux 00:03: timeout 01119000 or time: 00:00:68.0. I2C aux 00:07: timeout 01119000 these are the messages I receive from Ubuntu during the first boot after installation. Time refers to the boot duration. The system: i9 7960X ASUS WS X299 Sage 128 GB Corsair RAM NVidia RTX 2080 ti x2 [no SLI] unfortunately I don’t understand what that means.

Have you attempted to install a more recent Ubuntu release, like 19.10? The RTX 20 series graphics cards are fairly new, and Ubuntu 19.10 likely offers improved compatibility. You could also consider removing one of the cards if a newer Ubuntu version doesn’t resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, I need to select 16.04 or 18.04 for the software I want to use. The program is the NVidia Jetpack for the Jetson dev kits.

Use the 'nomodeset' kernel setting and then apply the Nvidia drivers. Nouveau is the standard driver, but it doesn't support RTX. Even then, you must install the Nvidia drivers.
