Hey everyone! I set up a new machine using an Asus x570 Taichi and am facing problems with its built-in WiFi. The connection is very unstable and slow now compared to the strong, fast signal from a Gigabyte gc-wb867d card in the same area. I recently updated the driver from the board support page, reinstalled it, and even reset Windows. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

It could appear simple, but confirm if the antenna on the motherboard is fully secured. Try inserting the dedicated WiFi card and testing the connection. Consider other adjustments you might make.

Yeah, I put the old card in and the signal is strong as usual. The antennas are screwed all the way in, which is the first thing I checked. Also tried different position, but it's just 1 block difference in signal strength. Put my phone at the same location and the wifi signal is perfect. The only thing I can think of is that I changed to a new build LOL

It's unusual. The speed test results and connection stability should match the dedicated card performance when signal strength is low.

It seems my beliefs about my home Wi-Fi arrangement were incorrect because I rent this space. I kept searching my Wi-Fi antenna away from the router all the time, even though I thought I was moving closer. Thanks @Lurick for sticking with us on this adventure!

It seems you suspect the downloads came from Asus rather than Asrock since the Taichi boards are associated with Asrock, not Asus.

I saved the driver from Asrock after searching by the board name.

The speed of my x570 taichi onboard WiFi appears capped at 300mbps due to its proximity to the router and antenna. I've experienced weak signals before and even had instances where the WiFi interface disappeared from Task Manager and Wi-Fi settings. Testing with iperf/jperf showed a wired connection reaching up to 900mbps, while the wireless link never surpassed 300mbps. My router is an ASUS Ax86U supporting Wi-Fi 6 at 160MHz, and my device also supports that frequency. The router's management page lists a maximum of 2400mbps for transmit/receive rates. I've tried updating the wireless card driver to the latest version from Intel and reset the CMOS.
