I recently moved from an R5 3600 to an R7 5700X3D and now have four 8GB RAM sticks totaling 32GB. Since all the sticks are functioning on both my test rig and my personal machine, I’ve checked each one individually. I also reset the battery on the motherboard (a B550 Pro ATX). I attempted a different BIOS setup. The unusual part is that only slots 1 and 2 support dual-channel memory, meaning I can only use 16GB even though the sticks are identical and match in speed. The RAM sticks are from the same brand but differ in model numbers. I’ve set the RAM to 2400MHz for testing, so it seems the issue isn’t related to speed or XMP support at the moment. The CPU debug light stays on and won’t turn off, and it fails to boot when slots 3 or 4 are filled. Previously, with the R5 3600, swapping the RAM sticks resolved the problem. Also, I removed and reinserted the GPU to clear the battery, and I’ve already put the battery back in. For other components, I have a 6750XT, a 2TB Samsung M.2 Gen4 SSD with DRAM, and an 850W tier A PSU.

No, I haven't checked the BIOS yet. Would you like me to do it now?

AM4 isn't recognized for reliability with four RAM modules. Most people stick with two. I'm building a second AM4 setup using 2700X, but with four sticks it only maintains stability at 2800MHz—not the recommended 3200MHz. See if you can lower the speed from 3600MHz down to stable levels. If possible, then the RAM controller might not be suitable or the RAM isn't strong enough for four sticks.

I set them at 2400mhz instead of 3200mhz for a specific reason. However, only the first two slots function properly, while the others don’t work, meaning it’s not a true dual-channel setup.

Remarkable performance at 2800MT/s on a Zen+ CPU. Your 2600 struggles with configurations above 2666 using its 4x8GB setup.

It comes down to securing connections and setting realistic goals. My first Corsair Dominators reached 3200MHz successfully, but I upgraded to a used set online, giving me 32GB from a 4x8GB package instead of my original 2x8GB. The new Dominators aren’t managing to exceed 2800MHz. The motherboard looks solid, so I might bump the voltage to hit 3200MHz—but even then, the performance boost stays under a 1 frame per second. I could settle for this second-place finish. Ultimately, this second build is more about durability than raw speed. A long-lasting Windows 10 system would be better, and if Windows fails, Linux might be the way forward someday. What do you mean slots 3 and 4 aren’t working? RAM pairs should fit in slots 1-3 and 2-4. Check those pairs—maybe one is faulty. DDR4 RAM, especially older models, was very picky for AM4 chips. It’s why BDIE sites exist, letting you compare models from the same brand and specs to see if they came from the same batch during assembly. Not matching perfectly can really hinder reaching your target speeds.

Tested the RAM module. Only slots 1 and 2 accepted it, while slot 3 didn’t, even though the R5 3600 worked fine there. The reason it functions well with the R5 3600 is unclear.

Clarify the meaning of slots 1 and 2. Are A1/A2 equivalent to B1/B2?

Looking for help? Trying to reposition the CPU might fix the issue. Uneven pressure could be the cause.
