I recently settled into an apartment with a fiber terminal and a MikroTik AP installed. My Lenovo ThinkPad T480 and office rack are connected through a Windows bridge, sharing internet over Ethernet. Recently, I added a TP-Link PCIe wireless card (300mb/s) to one of my servers running Windows Server 2019. Initially, speeds were surprisingly low—about 0.34MB per second both incoming and outgoing—and now the signal is barely detectable even at close range. I’m considering a gigabit powerline extender since there’s no ceiling for running cables, and I also want to try connecting directly via Ethernet for better performance. Any advice or alternatives?

Wireless isn't recommended during server periods. WiFi can be unreliable. The truth is, proximity doesn't guarantee connectivity. It depends on the building materials and other interference sources. Powerline adapters rarely deliver Gigabit speeds. Usually, performance is average; sometimes they're more stable than WiFi, but in many situations they lag behind. The only viable Ethernet option is MOCA, though it requires costly adapters and pre-existing coaxial wiring.

You definitely don't want to host a server over Wi-Fi. It would be an awful experience for your clients. Powerline is just a minor improvement compared to that, and their claims about gigabit speeds are misleading. Most people only get 100Mbit, which is decent on a good day.
