About six months ago I purchased a new computer. Since then it has been unreliable in most games I play (I haven’t focused on fixing it). I frequently encounter crashes and occasional screen glitches. When the display goes off, the system stays powered on, indicated by all the lights on the motherboard, GPU, and fans. The only change is the motherboard code showing 98 with a small green LED above it. Here are my computer’s details. Any advice on troubleshooting would be helpful. Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E Gaming WIFI CPU: Intel i9-13900K GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM LIQUID X 24G PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G6, 80 Plus Gold 1000W RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) XMP 3.0 AMD EXPO SSD: SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink 2TB, PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280, Speeds Up-to 7,000MB/s OS: Windows 11

Examine the Windows Event Log first, then perform multiple PassMark Memtest runs. Check the BIOS for any overclocking options. Execute some diagnostic tools and monitor the temperature.

Do you possess the latest BIOS for your motherboard? If not, proceed with the update. Intel 13th and 14th generation 65+W chips have a microcode issue that results in higher voltages being sent to the CPU, causing instability and performance loss. Applying the newest BIOS updates can resolve this, especially if the chip is already significantly affected.

Ensure CMOS and BIOS are updated before proceeding. Follow the manual: 98 indicates "console input devices connect." Remove all peripherals sequentially and verify there are no errors.

A BIOS update was installed for my motherboard. The update seems to fix the game crashes after installation. Thanks for the advice! It’s unclear if this also solves the code 98 problem on the board, as that issue is rare. Appreciate your input. I’ll check back later if the 98 concern is resolved or if I have more questions about my computer.
