if there’s even a slight voltage fluctuation my computer will power down and restart by itself. sometimes the UPS activates (during outages) and then you notice a click when it restarts, which is usually when this problem occurs most often. It seems like my PC is frequently shutting off and rebooting, making it hard to save any work. I suspect a power supply issue, but I’d appreciate some advice before replacing it.

graphics: Ryzen 5 4600g, 16GB RAM, no graphics card
power source: 550W Corsair 1kVA PSU, UPS backup

It's clearly a power supply problem. Since you don't have an integrated graphics card, you might consider using a lower-power model unless you plan to upgrade later.

The issue is that we rarely experience power cuts here, but when they do occur, it usually happens infrequently—sometimes only once or twice. My UPS can manage that until then, keeping the PC running on backup power. The problem arises when electricity returns and the UPS switches back to main power, causing the PC to shut down in a very short time. I suspected a PSU issue because I thought it might be related to voltage fluctuations, as I’m aware PSUs are built to handle a range of voltages. Maybe my unit can’t adapt now. Thanks for your response!

I believe I should just try a fresh PSU and verify it on my own.

that’s not the way an UPS operates—it always powers the computer itself. it draws power from the mains, uses its own battery and inverter to keep the system running continuously. this setup allows the UPS to maintain electricity even if the main supply is interrupted. if the machine stops during that time, it’s because the UPS can’t manage the sudden demand when it’s not receiving a charge.

It seems you're unsure about your previous assumption, but the update is fresh—new in about two weeks. I'm puzzled by the issue you're facing, so I'll switch to a different power supply and check the outcome.

The timing of your purchase has minimal impact on the age, quality, or performance of the UPS.

It was a power supply issue, I swapped out the PSU and everything is now working properly. PS- it wasn't the UPS.
