I was checking if an ASUS router would improve my WiFi coverage. I have the RT-AC53 and RT-AC1200G+ models. Both can work in Access Point mode since I need a device from my ISP that acts as both router and modem. If I use the second model as an AP, I should link it through one of the LAN ports to the first one. The main concern is whether the remaining LAN ports still allow devices to connect to the network or if WiFi is the only option on the second router.
It should function, though it isn't the optimal choice. For wireless needs, consider a dedicated access point from a provider like Ubiquiti.
If required, I can definitely provide a strong wireless connection when funds allow. Generally, handling up to eight devices works fine, though most homes see around four phones, a few browsers, and one laptop streaming YouTube. Overall, it should easily manage the load.
