You're facing issues setting up xrdp on your Ubuntu server, but connecting via Remote Desktop works fine. This suggests the problem might be with your Windows setup or network configuration rather than xrdp itself. Double-check that Remote Desktop is enabled on your Windows machine and that you're using the correct credentials. Also verify that xrdp is running on your server and accessible from the network.

Establish a connection between Linux and Windows GUI or the reverse.

Arch generally provides clear guidance, just skip the arch-specific parts. This guide is tailored for 14.04 but should be useful. Xfce is likely chosen due to its lightweight nature. For Ubuntu 16.04, a helpful resource was found on Ubuntu's help center. Good luck!

On the other hand, I'm trying to reach my Linux server from my Windows 10 device. I've already checked some of those links, but not others. A few seem promising, and I'll follow up later.

I attempted every method mentioned in those links but keep encountering issues. I think I’ve lost hope.

I don’t have Windows installed at home, so I’d have checked it myself to understand the issues. Although your photo shows a “password failed” message, troubleshooting on forums can be frustrating. I’ve learned that xrdp typically runs VNC quietly, which might mean your setup wasn’t set up correctly. At this stage, it might be simpler to try X2Go instead. Keep in mind that X2Go works best with desktop environments that support video hardware acceleration. From what I understand, xrdp also faces similar limitations, though possible solutions exist. So, X2Go with MATE, XFCE, LXDE or even a basic VNC connection should work well. P.S.: X2Go is remarkably fast—some clients pay monthly for it because they’re blown away by its performance. Anyone who’s used VNC before and accepted the lower frame rate and JPEG quality will likely be surprised when switching to X2Go.
