Hey everyone, I recently purchased an MSI X570 Tomahawk to swap out my B450 Tomahawk Max. Before that, with the B450, I managed to upgrade my 3200MHz CL16 to a 3800MHz CL16 with very tight timing—took me nearly a week to get it right. Now, using the X570 Tomahawk, I can't push past 3600MHz CL18. I own an ADATA XPG D60 3200MHz CL16 CJR. I tried again with the B450 and it works flawlessly at 3800MHz. After all this tweaking and testing, I’m starting to wonder if the X570 Tomahawk isn’t compatible with my RAM or if there’s an issue with memory control. Could I request an exchange, return, or RMA? Other than that, everything else seems fine. By the way, I also tried a 3866MHz version but didn’t get any results even with loose timings. The RAM is listed as MSI compatible.

Each motherboard configuration behaves uniquely. The learning process and PCB design vary. Make sure your new X570 has the most recent BIOS installed. The memory controller sits inside the CPU, not on the board.

I've tested both the newest and beta releases of Bios, but none match the performance of the other. Even at 3600mhz, I can't achieve tighter timings than 16-18-18-36. I know the settings on MB won't carry over to the next board, but I was hoping for a significantly better result with my X570 Tomahawk. I must admit, I'm a bit let down. To be honest, I can't really give this board back for these reasons.

An expert in overclocking might explain how a 5th best AM4 motherboard can fail under stress or poor conditions, or whether the issue stems from design flaws rather than random defects.

I'm sorry for not responding earlier. I discovered the issue and it wasn't related to what we initially believed we were dealing with. I didn't mention that I'm using a Cooler Master GPU Vertical Bracket V1 PCIE3, which is causing classic problems with PCIE 3 and 4 not functioning properly—leading to random slow boot times, no post, and BSODs. After switching PCIE 4.0 to PCIE 3.0 in the BIOS, everything started working correctly. The ADATA D60 is running at 3200mhz with a 16CL OC to 3800mhz configuration. All tests passed without errors; I verified using memtest86 via USB BIOS, TM5 Extreme@anta777, Prime95, and Aida64.
