Hey there, I downloaded the Windows 10 Professional Tech Preview ISO without realizing it was a trial version. I need to switch it to the full retail edition since my product key isn’t working and I was told it would, but Windows Update is failing because of memory issues.

Run the elevated CMD window as an administrator. Execute the command: slmgr.vbs -ipk "With your product key"

It is labeled "insider preview" now. If you aren't on build 10240, you can download the media creation tool and upgrade via the provided link. For build 10240, this is the official retail version; future updates will offer beta builds through Windows Update. To disable them, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options > Stop Insider Builds.

What does "slmgr.vbs -ato" refer to? It seems to be a command or file name related to a script or application.

I'll give it a try in a second. Just running the Creation Tool and hopefully that will change it to a full retail version and hopefully I can activate it. Unless I'm missing something can you use your existing genuine Windows 7 key?

I’d probably set up Windows 7 and add the product key if it didn’t work. I’d use the command prompt to check activation, then upgrade to Windows 10 if needed. You can also try the creation tool if you have any questions.

Verify your build number. The retail Windows 10 key isn't compatible with earlier insider versions.
