I recently assembled a new PC and needed a clean setup because my hard drive contained some malware. My old system ran Windows 8.1 Pro before the release of Windows 10, and I was weighing whether to upgrade or stick with the current version for about a week. Eventually, I decided to use the free installation option. It upgraded to Windows 10 Home/Pro as advertised. Now my PC lacks a CD drive, so he suggested using a USB copy of Windows 10 Home and applying the activation code from your setup. I used Magic Jellybean to retrieve the code, but it reported Windows 10 Enterprise with the same CD key. Despite having a new hard drive and a USB installation, it didn’t recognize it as an Enterprise version. I recently logged into Windows using my Xbox Microsoft account, but I wasn’t sure if that would grant an Enterprise license. If anyone has advice, I’d really appreciate it.

Upgrading from Win8.1 to Win10 during the free installation didn’t provide a WIn10 key. Instead, you received a digital license for your device. Logging into your MS account should automatically update your OS as long as you haven’t made any significant hardware changes since the free upgrade (such as switching from Intel to AMD).
