You've just added a new motherboard, processor, and RAM to your PC, but your Windows 10 license keeps showing the error code 0x803F7001.

The W10 product key is linked to a specific motherboard model number. When the S/N changes, the Windows key must also be updated (unless you own the original retail version).

Hello, welcome to the Forum. There are several options to enable your license, but the most reliable methods are likely Microsoft live chat or phone activation. If you already have a Microsoft account, you should be able to log in and activate your device directly. You can probably request a new license through live chat or by calling support.

This doesn<|pad|> an issue. If it's a gradual change, you might have grounds for a claim, but switching from a Gigabyte board to an Asus board usually doesn't result in a replacement key.

Only if he possesses a Windows 10 retail license. If he has an OEM license, it cannot be transferred. It remains tied to the motherboard upon initial installation, which explains why OEM licenses are more affordable.

I possessed the original key and transitioned smoothly from an ASUS z170 to a Gigabyte b350. Both the motherboard and components were updated. I only needed to log into the Microsoft site, turn off Windows on the old machine, and then restart it on the new one.

Earlier, phone activation functioned well for me, though it took a bit longer than expected.
