I was setting up Ubuntu 18.04.1 on my Asus Zenbook S UX391U with an Intel i7-8550U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD and Intel iGPU, while running Windows 10. During installation I saw a lot of flickering, as if the display cable wasn’t connected correctly. The text on screen became hard to read. After finishing the install, the flickering stayed. In Windows it started flickering whenever I switched back to Ubuntu. I assumed the drivers were the issue, but Intel says the latest drivers come with Ubuntu. I tried reinstalling but it didn’t work. Any advice?

Ubuntu runs a legacy kernel by default. This could be related to its design. Are you comfortable with Linux concepts?

You're right, I don't have detailed knowledge. Just to clarify, you mentioned you're comfortable with some fundamental concepts. That helps! What would you like to discuss?

I'll verify the resolution and refresh rate in your display settings.

It looks like a driver problem might be the cause. Consider switching to a more recent distribution for certainty. Check out the Ubuntu beta (available live) at http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.10/

I also experimented with Arch Linux and a previous Ubuntu release, but they all faced the same issue. Debian was the only one that functioned, but I prefer not to use it.

This might happen since Debian likely relies on vesa graphics; consider booting with nomodeset.
