Hey! I just purchased a 2x16GB 3600MHz CL18 Corsair LPX Vengeance kit yesterday and installed it today. I was really excited but the computer didn’t boot up. My setup includes a Ryzen 7 5800X, an Asus ROG Strix B550-F Wi-Fi motherboard, an RTX 2060 Super, and a 650W power supply (brand not specified).
At first I thought the RAM wasn’t getting recognized, but it took a very long time to set up. After some troubleshooting—trying different slots, using only one stick, checking the QLED settings, resetting BIOS—I suspected a GPU issue. I even called a friend to confirm the GPU was correct. When I replaced the memory sticks, it worked perfectly at 2133MHz.
If I switched back to my old 2x8GB 3000MHz kit, it also worked fine. I then tried increasing the frequency in DOCP settings, but it kept freezing at 2133MHz. I’ve read about compatibility problems with Micron RAM and Ryzen 5000 at higher speeds, but others seem to have no issues.
Could anyone help me figure out what’s going on? If there’s a real compatibility problem, what should I choose instead? Thanks for your time!
It seems you should be able to use your new sticks, though not at full power. You might need some effort with the bios. Try booting with 2133 first, then see if 3000 works. 3600 could be a bit too much, maybe. Keep an eye on any bios updates.
What model did your old memory kit come with? Was DOCP turned on for it? Which BIOS version was installed on your motherboard? When you removed the button cell battery to reset the CMOS... Did you shut down the PC, turned the PSU switch on at the back, and unplugged it from the wall? For two memory sticks, use slots #2 and #4.
I powered off the PC and unplugged it before removing the battery. Then I followed the motherboard manual to insert the memory sticks into the designated slots. I experimented with various speeds from 3000 to 3600, but it kept freezing at 2133mhz during Windows boot and crashed when I adjusted the DOCP settings manually. I didn’t pay much attention to updating the BIOS before resetting it, but I plan to try that now.
I attempted the new kit in the latest BIOS version, but it fails to load at all. It only works with the older RAM setup (2x8GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LX). I’m planning to send it back to Amazon and look for a better low-profile option with 2x16GB or 2x32GB at higher speeds like 3200MHz or 3600MHz using Samsung memory modules. Anyone have recommendations?
