Problem with the new PC experiencing severe performance issues.
I recently assembled a PC in mid-August (8/17) and it has already experienced significant performance problems. The Windows function, which you activate by pressing the Windows key, is not functioning properly.
PC: No graphics card
Model: GIGABYTE Z690 AORUS ELITE AX D5
Processor: I9-12900K
Storage: CRUCIAL 1TB P3 PLUS GEN 4 NVME
Memory: G.SKILL 32G 2X D5 6000
Case: Thermal Take
Power Supply: PowerSpec 650
Cooling: Deepcool AK620
Operating System: Windows 10
General Performance Usage (from Task Manager), maximum observed, and monitored during heavy multitasking – what I typically observe when many applications run simultaneously on the system)
CPU: under 7% utilization
Memory: under 50% usage
Storage: under 5%
Graphics (integrated): less than 10%, although today it reached 28% (I also performed a factory reset and restored the PC)
CPU usage is currently at 2%
History of issues encountered:
- Week 1: Perfect performance
- Weeks 2–3: Began XMP profile, functioned for two weeks
- Week 4: Encountered BSOD, changed graphics card and XMP settings – still unresolved after BIOS reset
- Week 5: Performed some overclocking, experienced great stability for 2–3 weeks
- Weeks 7–8: Sudden lag began, noticeable even during typing
- Around week 10: Windows function stopped working (I had never installed Windows 11)
- Current (week 13): Integrated graphics now running at 28%
Actions taken so far:
For lag issues:
- Performed a factory reset of the computer
- Installed older versions of Windows 10
- Removed numerous unnecessary applications
- Reinstalled Windows 11, but rolled it back as it didn’t resolve the lag
Regarding the Windows function:
- Disabled gaming settings
- All other adjustments made
I am aware this is the Windows function, as I programmed the Windows key shortcut in my BIOS settings. Everything else worked except the Windows button itself.
what are the newest bios details for the motherboard? how many partitions are on the ssd and what is its capacity? check the cpu temperature.
Is there any software recently added that might be affecting the system's performance?
My BIOS is from June 7, which doesn't match the dates here. I also recall that during a boot, the BIOS mentioned an update, so I applied it, but it wasn't in June since I got the PC in August. I'm not sure about the partitioning, so I'll use whatever the default is. Storage usage is only 5%, and CPU temperatures never exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
I don't think so, I also performed a factory reset on the PC. Outside of the usual apps and software, I only have the following:
Brave (browser)
Libre Office
Slack
VScode
Chrome
HWINFO64: I also only downloaded this after issues began, so I can attempt to determine if one of the components was overheating
TotalAV
Before the reset, I used several other hardware checkers for temperatures, voltage/wattage, and RGB controllers for the PC case fans. I also had a keyboard.
Software
: but TotalAV scans files before downloads to verify their safety (two separate links, the software link points to a GDRIVE folder, which is in the keyboard Amazon link).
I also conduct weekly scans on my PC with Total AV.
In short, I didn't have any new apps or software that caused the PC to slow down after a few days. The system functioned normally for some time. The only other possibility I have is that I accidentally pressed the external power button on the PC, which partially activated it. I'm unsure if this could have affected the device.
It shouldn't influence it, unless another issue was occurring simultaneously.
PSU: checked with HWINFO64 to confirm my wattage usage was near 650, it wasn't.
Ram: executed these commands, RAM appears to be in good condition.
CPU: installed this software, all tests passed successfully.
SSD: overall status is good.
MB: completed all steps except resetting CMOS and scanning for shorts in the PC.
This is my first PC, so I don’t have any spare components to isolate and test individually. If anyone has suggestions on what to check next or a suitable SW for hardware verification, it would be greatly appreciated.
