I’m setting up a new PC for a friend. Everything is installed, but when I move files around in the desktop, it slows down noticeably. The hardware includes a Ryzen 7 5800X with ROG Strix B550-I Gaming and 32GB RAM, plus an EVGA 3060 graphics card. If anyone has tips to fix this performance issue, it would be really helpful.

Additional details include RAM manufacturer, model, frequency, etc. DOCP feature status is also provided. By default, most systems use 2666 MHz unless BIOS disables it.

Ram Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 CL16 was set to 2666 MHz initially. It was adjusted to 3200 MHz, though I’m unsure if DOCP was activated. No changes were made to that setting.

Switching to 3200 is recommended. From what I know, Ryzens performs well with Crucial Ballistix. Also, there are reports about Corsair facing quality control problems lately, and their return/warranty system isn’t very satisfactory.

Additionally, I noted that while using the desktop, I attempted to open the browser, but the system rebooted on its own.

I’d consider swapping in some standard RAM to check if it resolves the issue. If it fixes things, you’ve found the cause. For better performance, I suggest Crucial Ballistix, particularly for Ryzens. Even my 1700 model improved noticeably, and my 5900X handles it well. It consistently scores higher than expected on Cinebench R23. Of course, I also have an OC RTX3060ti with PBO enabled on the 5900X. Another point to verify is whether the BIOS is current—some boards encounter problems with Zen3 if the BIOS isn’t updated, which could affect compatibility. For the Ryzen 7 5800x I require BIOS version 1202, memory around 2000 MB, and confirmed stability with a Ryzen 5 3500. I’m considering a BIOS swap to CB RAM.
