So. This seems unusual. Yet this machine has encountered issues before—like failing to power on or shutting down unexpectedly. Specs: Asus B550-A, Ryzen 7 3700X, 2x 16GB TIDENT, RGB at 3600MHz, Strix 5700XT TT toughpower, Grand RGB Gold 750W PSU. Let’s go back a few days. I received my motherboard extension cable by mail, but it was dark, so I picked it up the next day. Unplugged the PSU from the wall and removed the motherboard power cord, then connected the extension cable the following day. The Lian Li Stimmer V2 RGB 24-pin worked. The next day, after plugging in the extension cable, the PC still wouldn’t boot. This pattern repeated—sometimes when I unplugged the PSU, maybe the capacitors drained and caused trouble. It happened about a quarter of the time after some PSU downtime. Usually it resolved after a couple reboots, but this time it didn’t. The drive was on, but the beeper kept ringing, indicating a video card issue. I thought it was strange, so I removed the GPU and still got the same problem. RAM tests passed, GPU on my rig worked fine, and I swapped out another PSU, RAM, and GPU that were confirmed good. Still the same LED and beeping. After a long night, I took the CMOS battery out, unplugged the PC, and waited. By the second day of troubleshooting, it still wouldn’t boot. I was puzzled. I thought maybe the capacitors had leaked. Then I pulled the GPU out too, but the issue persisted. RAM tests confirmed everything was fine. I tried a different PSU, RAM, and GPU that were known to work. Still no boot or beep. Exhausted, I removed the CMOS battery again and unplugged the machine. By the third day, just plugging it in with only one stick of RAM worked—dual-channel wouldn’t function. I managed to boot after a few attempts. I decided to use my test bench for gaming and left the PC unplugged to let the stock cooler install. But things got even weirder. On the third day, I plugged it back in with just one stick of RAM. Dual-channel failed again. XMP settings didn’t help much. More problems appeared: other graphics cards wouldn’t display properly. All wiring seemed intact. After updating Windows, a strange “CPU fan error” warning popped up. It was odd—since the AIO pump and fans were connected, I hadn’t experienced this before. There was also a faint smell of burnt components, though I couldn’t confirm it. Eventually, I ordered a new motherboard and plan to wait for its arrival. Garbage board, rma if you can. If you can't, remove the module without any connection, take off the socket cover to expose the golden pads under the black plastic, extract the CMOS battery and let it sit for 2 minutes, then press the power button for 2 minutes. Why? Submerge the device in water completely, rinse with running water, soak for about an hour or two, remove it, and let it dry for 2 to 4 days depending on your climate—tropical areas like mine take around 36 hours. This fully discharges the board, leaving no residue and eliminating dirt completely. I've confirmed this method works after reviving a board (g31m vs2 but ended up with p5k pro) and fixing a shutdown issue that wasn't caused by a power button short circuit. It’s an instant shutdown test on my Z77M D3H, which is currently at P95 large FFT stress test to ensure no random shutdown problems. This last resort uses 99% IPA for extra cleaning, though it might not be enough alone, so I recommend the water soak.
This shows what really happens if you don’t trust the last resort fixes. I actually captured the image because these p95 large FFTs still indicate the shutdown is resolved. All my dead boards are just junk—they’re failures, mainly due to their low cost. The weak RAM setup won’t push performance beyond 4533, while a budget B550MHz can hit 5000. Apart from price and memory limitations, there aren’t many real issues beyond that.
