Problem with the motherboard
I have a Dell OptiPlex motherboard. I took it out of its case and set it up in a box I built. All the components were connected. When I tried to power on the PC, it didn’t start, so later I realized the RAM slot wasn’t working. After removing the faulty RAM piece, smoke came out, suggesting the board itself might be damaged. I’m unsure why this happened or what caused the failure.
The computer started up, but the RAM slot didn't function properly and the motherboard was damaged. Could this be the cause?
Certainly! Here’s a rephrased version of your message:
Sorry, I really paid attention to that. However, I believe the smoke suggests an issue occurred. My assumption is that it was damaged. While working on it, where exactly did you position the motherboard?
Was it the heat from the wooden table that led to the issue? Yes, that seems likely.
Placing just cardboard beneath the module? No nearby water droplets. Are there any conductive materials like wires or metal present? Could there be any source of moisture such as AC, sink, or bathroom?
