I need to fix the scratch on my motherboard. Some people suggested using clear nail polish or tape, but I’m unsure. I want to avoid damaging the board.

Did it really damage the trace? That would definitely be a problem if it did. Unless you’re not using the RAM slots, you should be fine. Cleaning nail polish is non-conductive, which is a plus when sealing it up. This is what’s suggested (and I’ve tried) for liquid metal your deli CPU with exposed components—so many have used it.
