The hard drive is now producing a clicking noise. 20230403_201502.m4a Google suggests it might be due to a head crash. He notes the computer hasn’t been bumped or damaged recently, yet it started unexpectedly when he turned it on. The drive isn’t showing up in BIOS or Windows either. Are there any ways to recover data or fix the issue?

This disk-related noise, sometimes described as buzzing, may signal an impending hard drive failure. Regardless of the manufacturer, protecting your information by backing up data promptly is crucial when such a sound occurs.

He can't perform that task because it isn't visible on the system

It doesn’t seem right, hasn’t he double-checked that the SATA cables (power and data) are securely connected? Additionally, what’s the age of the drive?

All connections are active and functioning properly. The device was recently installed approximately three and a half years ago.

Did he just add something to the storage space? If it doesn't appear, it might have stopped working or could be infected by malware.

He claims nothing new was added to the drive recently. Probably it stopped working then.
