Hello everyone, I’m facing a DIMM problem on my old x79 motherboard. The issue started about 1-2 months ago without any power disruption. I attempted basic fixes by swapping the working RAM into the faulty DIMM (B1), but it’s confusing since the board still recognizes the RAM. Here’s what I’ve done:

I used a 16GB 4x4 RAM stick (1600 MHz) from a confirmed working unit to test the faulty one. The motherboard lists four sticks, but my main page only shows 12GB out of 16.

After uninstalling A1 and leaving B1 active, I ended up with 8GB total across three slots. From that point on, I suspect A1 is detected while C1 and D1 are not.

When I reinstalled B1 and booted again, the RAM count stayed at 8GB. Then I swapped my 8GB stick into A1, which now shows 16GB installed (A1:8, B1:NA, C1:4, D1:4). But when I tried the 8GB stick in B1, it didn’t register—back to 8GB total.

My conclusion is that B1 seems defective. It’s puzzling how BIOS sees RAM but doesn’t activate it as real memory. In CPUZ, it lists all four sticks as virtual, yet Task Manager shows only three slots. I’m looking for advice or tips to resolve this. I’ve cleared CMOS and removed the battery. If possible, reverting to an older BIOS version might help identify if it’s a software issue. Keep going, test negative!

Have you tried using a torch to inspect the Dimm Slot B1? It seems similar to issues you've faced before, as it can sometimes cause damage. Check the slot for any signs of damage or debris—it looks like the slot might be partially affected since your motherboard is still communicating with your RAM. You might want to give it a thorough clean with compressed air. All the best!

I have some compressed air available. I won’t use a magnifying glass, but I’ll attempt to focus using my DSLR camera.
