Problem with the CPU fan not operating.
Hey everyone, just finished cleaning my PC and reassembled everything. The CPU fan isn’t spinning now, and there’s a constant beep sound. When I booted up, it went into BIOS, checked the Gigabyte Smart fan settings, and confirmed the CPU fan is at zero RPM. I switched the BIOS to full speed but it still didn’t work. After exiting BIOS, the PC kept booting to the Windows password screen, which I turned off to prevent overheating. The CPU model is Ryzen 7 2700X, motherboard Gigabyte AUG x470, and the fan is AMD’s Wraith Prism.
The device is no longer functioning. Or the fan was mistakenly connected to a case fan header.
I relied on compressed air for cleaning and kept everything secured to prevent any spinning fans, as I’ve applied this technique repeatedly before. I also didn’t disconnect the CPU and fan cables. Maybe there’s another reason?
Make sure you didn’t connect the fan in reverse. That’s something easy to miss and might lead to the issue.
Insert your old Gigabyte case fan onto the top CPU fan connector. It starts spinning and the beeping stops. The system launches and I'll attempt the alternative method suggested by @Mayday793.
You can check the CPU fan by spinning it manually and observing if it starts moving. If it doesn’t respond, proceed with resetting the BIOS—though you mentioned you weren’t sure how. Since other fans spin, your initial thought seems correct. The fan is likely dead. To fix it, consider switching to an air-cooled or water-cooled case fan; let me know if you want advice on choosing one.
Additionally, I noticed a 2-second beep for the past few days while playing Forza Horizon 4 (just the game right now). Earlier, it began beeping whenever I opened Unity in the game engine. Then last night it only sounded when the browser was active. That’s why I chose to clean the PC today to compare the situation. This came after I restarted the computer to verify fan speeds.
