Occasionally I also need assistance. My wireless router (ASUS rt-AC68U) has been working well for a while, providing strong signals and full house coverage until recently. Yesterday evening it suddenly stopped working. The signal vanished on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. After rebooting the device, nothing improved. Even with Ethernet connections and the WAN port active (LEDs lit up as expected), there was no connection detected. I've tried several fixes: soft reset, hard reset, checking the power adapter, testing the voltage (19.25VDC vs expected 19V), and even attempting to trick it with a modified setup. The 5GHz band wasn't active, only the 2.4GHz was using channel 40. I've also flashed new firmware from Merlin and updated to ASUSWRT-Merlin, but nothing changed. I'm hoping someone can explain what happened and suggest a solution. Thanks. P.S. This router is an ASUS rt-AC68U gigabit model, supporting AC1900 speeds on both bands.

It might be fading away. I’d simply swap it out and proceed.

After trying another approach for an hour or so, I returned and noticed the router can now use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The previous setup was lost but easy to reconfigure. Success is short-lived. Around 15 minutes into the configuration, the 2.4GHz disappeared and the 5GHz refused connections. Rebooting helped sometimes but not consistently. Two or three restarts usually worked. Anyone has a more reliable solution than hoping? Could there be a way to fix the internal components? It seems like a hardware issue.

Didn't you already know the router before deciding? It really was a hassle (I did get a full refund from Amazon after the same problem, it’s out of warranty anyway).

The solution was to politely ask and clarify the problem. It was amusing because it started with Asus about RAM, then about VLAN on the router, and finally about support. They didn’t know anything, so I reached out to Amazon, explaining the issue. They asked if a full refund was possible, which I agreed to.

I'm not getting much out of this. After reviewing my receipt, I purchased it on eBay. It's been a reliable router for five years. Thanks again.
