Hey everyone, I've been trying out some GTA lately and running into a driving issue. The road surfaces aren't loading properly underneath me, which has been frustrating. At first I assumed it was because the game saved to my hard drive, but switching to an SSD didn't fix it. Then I thought maybe my 3GB of VRAM wasn't sufficient, but according to the game's settings, it only needs about 1066MB—roughly a third of what I have. So I doubt that's the main problem. I've adjusted the settings as much as possible, turning off everything except the essentials ("normal" mode). So far nothing seems to help much. I've attached a video that clearly shows the problem. Unfortunately, I can't use keyboard shortcuts or interfaces while playing, which breaks things, so I had to rely on basic recording methods to share the issue with friends. Update: I asked for usage stats, and here are my numbers after running the full GTA V test: Max GPU Temp: 54°C Max VRAM Used (Dedicated): 2656 MB Average VRAM Used (Dedicated): 1053 MB Max VRAM Used (Dynamic): 143 MB Average VRAM Used (Dynamic): 102 MB Max CPU Temp: 56°C I plan to check again later when I play for longer. You're playing at 1080p with mid to high settings on a GTX 960. I experience texture problems briefly, then they resolve. It likely relates to your graphics card. Your driver should be current—use GPU-Z to check video memory usage during games (it logs without needing alt+tab). Online play may suffer from poor internet or server issues. Try story mode to see if performance improves.

I'm using 1080p resolution with the lowest possible settings (the game labels it as "normal"). Almost everything that enhances visuals is turned off, including population density adjustments. My driver is current, and I've confirmed it. Story mode also experiences similar issues. I expect my online speed won't be terrible since I have 1000/1000 fiber and connect via Ethernet. I plan to run GPU-Z in the benchmark mode shortly to check resource usage, then verify later when playing with friends. I agree it might relate to my GPU—it's getting quite old and should be upgraded this winter.

I would check the system temperatures too. It’s possible your CPU isn’t operating at maximum speed for a reason. The slow HDD could have made things worse, but since you’re using the SSD, you should be okay there—unless you only transferred the folder in Windows Explorer without creating a new installation path in Steam.

I accessed the steam environment and relocated the local files to another directory within it. Everything should be fine there. I’ll monitor my CPU and GPU temperatures and share the results shortly.

Confirm the game wasn't downloaded to the HDD, and disconnect it if necessary.

No changes needed. Playing the standard game and chatting with friends online is just as good. Running many mods in Skyrim gives a similar experience.

Your GPU isn’t being used to its full potential. The temperatures are likely above 60°C, around 70°C. Are you playing in windowed mode?
