Hello. Here I am seeking assistance, although I’ve already reached out on Reddit. My setup: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus with 4x16 Crucial 3200MHz BallistixSport LTGrayCL16. I purchased a new PC in November 2019 and it functioned perfectly until recently. Over the past couple of weeks, my system began experiencing BSODs. The nonpaged area service encountered an IRQL not less than critical exception, which led to several problems. Other symptoms included: freezing during idle or while streaming (YT/Facebook), inability to launch programs or start Windows, login failures, and frequent "file system error" warnings when opening software. I also faced crashes after launching applications. Despite playing demanding games like Metro Exodus and Half Life Alyx at full settings, and using my CPU and GPU intensely for tasks such as Blender and Substance Painter, the issues started recently. I used default BIOS settings consistently.
I updated Windows temporarily, which improved things for a while, but problems persisted. Diagnostic tools still flagged errors. I tried cleaning the SSD I had been using for years, but it didn’t resolve everything. After reinstalling Windows, I encountered persistent file corruption—especially with web downloads becoming damaged. Internet speed fluctuated wildly, dropping from 200kb/s to 30mb/s, then stabilizing. I eventually resolved the issue by replacing my Ethernet cable and resetting my router. However, I still faced strange system behavior, including memory errors and application crashes.
After a fresh install, some BIOS tweaks helped, but I continued to see instability. Memory tests with tools like memtest86 revealed numerous errors, especially when using multiple RAM sticks. CPU stress tests showed significant drops in performance, particularly on threads 6 and 7. I attempted CPU burn tests and voltage adjustments, but the problems remained. Eventually, I resettched my BIOS by removing the motherboard battery and followed IT recommendations. The fix was minimal—system started working again—but I still encountered random crashes and instability.
I’m unsure whether the problem stems from the CPU, motherboard, power supply, or RAM. I’ve heard that some issues can be due to timing or voltage irregularities. I’ve attached some photos for reference. Please advise what might be causing these disruptions. Thank you.
Did you actually set up the chipset driver? All these signs point to faulty RAM, possibly due to timing issues, defective modules, or missing drivers. The most likely cause here is the CPU, which might appear as a consistent core count during stress testing—this could indicate cooling problems if the heatsink isn't properly attached, or it might simply be the CPU itself.
I was about to repeat the same point, and I’ll also suggest trying to reset the CMOS or update the BIOS.
Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to understand what Prime95 indicates about threads 7 and 8. It seems confusing since each RAM stick appears to be problematic. Also, it's surprising that none of these issues persist after updating Windows 10. I didn't realize those BSODs were happening before. I updated my BIOS to version 1407 for the Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus and used the CLRTC method to reset. Maybe I'll try the standard battery removal process next.
Examine the design of a Ryzen 3 processor and observe the positioning of its CPU units in relation to the memory controller. This arrangement indicates that cores seven and eight are positioned toward the edges of the chip, which may imply the cooling system isn't seated directly against the board.
