Problem with sudden rise in PC GPU heat levels
I experienced an unusual GPU temperature rise issue. My setup is an EVGA GTX 1080 hybrid. I cleaned the PC and replaced the thermal paste. The problem started during gameplay, with temperatures jumping from 60 to 93 degrees. The GPU fan increased to maximum speed, making a loud noise. After the spike, temperatures gradually decreased to around 50 degrees, but the fan kept running at high speed. To lower the temperature, I would disconnect the GPU for about five minutes and then reconnect it. Running the game again or using FurMark for an extended period eliminated the spikes. Another incident occurred late at night when I forgot to unplug, so I turned off the PC and slept. In the morning, the fan was still loud and the temperature stayed at 50 degrees. Repeating the disconnection process resolved the issue. My GPU uses water cooling.
I've had blowerstyle GPUs in the past. On one of them, I kinda saw the same thing. Even though on the surface the graphics card looked fairly clean in terms of dust, inside the finstack of the blower cooler, bigger chunks of dust was building up. I remove the dust and issue was fixed. Since you have a 1080, you have had a long time for dust to build up inside the blower cooler. Maybe it's worth to have a look inside? Anyhow, I hope someone here can help.
I checked it and cleared all dust, but the issue keeps occurring. The only solution I found so far is to disconnect and reconnect the GPU, which stops the problem.
