Half of my Steam games aren't working. These include Skyrim, CSGO, CS Source, L4D2, and Portal. When I click launch it says preparing to launch then crashes, sometimes showing a black screen before saying "WhateverGame.exe has stopped working." The game loads the menu with settings but the .exe file stops functioning. I've already tried reinstalling CSGO without success. I also played CSGO last night, turned it off, went to sleep, and when I restarted my PC today, the same issues occurred. Please help. I've been trying to fix this for about two hours.

Have you checked the standard verification cache? If not, what does the location look like for your Steam installation, and have you attempted to launch the games from there?

What's your memory capacity and hard drive age? Just let me know!

I tried that earlier and most games worked, but they didn’t. When I launch them from Steam apps/common/Game it still doesn’t function even with 8GB RAM. Both drives are under a year old. As I mentioned, I played CSGO last night without any issues, and today when I started it, the first thing I opened was fine.

Checked if your games were installed on HDD or SSD. Provided the file path for the game .exe on the HDD.

A few are stored on the HDD while others use the SSD. I reinstalled CSGO previously and moved it to the SSD, but it didn’t work.

It seems like you're feeling frustrated about something. But should we reinstall Windows? It might take less time than trying to solve the issue.

I turned off all background services in msconfig, restarted the system and everything functioned properly. Initially there was no sound and just basic functionality, but games started working. After re-enabling everything and rebooting, CSGO booted up fine. However, after quitting, I reopened it and now it doesn’t work at all—no idea what’s wrong.

I own a "Tuning" tool, but it's not exactly what I have. It was a service I needed to turn off in msconfig.
