I've searched for a while for a fix but haven't found anyone with the same problem. My PC works when plugged in and turns off normally, but it won't power on after unplugging until I reattach the power cable from the motherboard. Any suggestions?

How much time have you been waiting? For instance, if your motherboard battery is dead, it might take longer to start than normal, but fixing it is simple—just replace the battery.

You disconnect it to protect the components. When left unplugged too long, the CMOS battery runs down and the computer needs a restart, causing loss of BIOS settings.

We recently changed the wall plugs to lower the electricity cost, even though they draw very little power. My partner is pushing back, saying it’s not worth the fight, but I’m only leaving them off for about a day—should be enough to affect anything.

I noted in another comment that I turn it off at the wall, but only for up to one day at a time. I've attempted to leave it on again without overriding the power setting on the MB, but nothing worked. I plan to check the MB battery next.

When the PC shuts down, it consumes very little energy, right?

I understand this discussion we've shared with my girlfriend—it’s often met with dismissive comments, and I get that. However, this topic is important now.
