I own a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1-11AST-05 Laptop
- Type 81VR (
specifications available here)
which has a somewhat difficult setup of Windows 10.
I want to reinstall from the beginning and obtain a clean operating system. Ideally, I would like to install the most minimal version of Windows possible, given the laptop's low specifications (AMD A4-9120e and just 4GB RAM), but I'm uncertain about what would be suitable.
I made a bootable Windows 10 USB drive, and attempted to restart the laptop using that device, but when it reached the Lenovo logo, I received a busy indicator that remained until I powered off the machine.
I reviewed the BIOS settings, which allow booting from the USB if one is present...
...but it doesn't recognize this USB.
I also tried a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, but the laptop completely disregarded it and returned to the Windows 10 installation on the hard drive.
I'm unsure whether switching the boot mode from UEFI to legacy would assist, though I'm apprehensive about trying this, as the only way to access the BIOS is by navigating to the Win10 login screen and holding down Shift while clicking the power button. All attempts to enter the BIOS by pressing function keys during startup were rejected.
Anyone has advice? I need the lightest version of Windows possible here. I only require it to run a single specific application (Windows only, no Linux installation).

Sorry, not clear what you mean.
I attempted to start from the USB drive with UEFI turned on in the laptop's BIOS, but it just stopped.
I'm worried about turning off UEFI, because I can only access the BIOS from Windows, and if Windows doesn't work, I won't be able to use the laptop.
Could you explain what you meant? Thanks.

I'm facing the same issue. I attempted both UEFI and legacy configurations, but nothing changed. If you manage to turn off secure boot, you can then boot into BIOS upon starting the laptop—just press and hold the F2 key repeatedly.
