I completed my first build last week using an i5-12400 CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM. I’m running an MSI PRO B760-P WifiDDR4 Proseries motherboard and connecting my 4K monitor via DPD and my 4K TV via HDMI. I’ve observed that watching 4K HDR videos on YouTube works smoothly when I don’t scroll across the screen, but it slows down if I do. Scrolling causes noticeable lag. Playing a YouTube video on my monitor while streaming a non-4K file (like an MLB baseball game) through GomPlayer also leads to lagging. I’m using extended mode on my screens to multitask. My concern is identifying the cause and finding a solution—should I upgrade the CPU, add a GPU, or optimize settings? I’m using Brave and whether Chrome or Firefox performs better for this setup isn’t clear. I’d like to avoid lag while handling these tasks together.

While viewing a video on your TV and PC simultaneously, lag may occur due to system load. Check if the CPU is handling both tasks efficiently. Your i5-12400 with 16GB RAM should manage HDMI 4K streaming well, but performance depends on overall usage. If you're also using Facebook while watching, it could add extra strain.

I’d start by changing to another browser and testing it. Although the CPU looks strong enough for 4K video at DP, it could be misleading. This particular chip uses an integrated GPU of 730, which is powerful but may struggle with high resolutions. Even though it appears suitable for playback, background processes will consume significant CPU resources. When you scroll through your screen, can you give more details? I’d recommend trying GOMplayer and then VLC Player. Also, consider using Edge instead of a third-party app—it uses fewer system resources. Are both displays connected simultaneously? Does the problem appear only when one is active? If yes, updating your BIOS or drivers might help. Your CPU could be overwhelmed handling all that data, especially with 4K video.

I mean simply moving the cursor across the screen while the video plays. Both devices are connected simultaneously while watching movies on the TV and working on the desktop. I've observed the problem mainly when playing videos on full screen and accessing sites like Facebook or platforms that embed videos such as YouTube or IMDb. It doesn't happen with every 4K video, but it does when two videos run at the same time on both displays. If I watch a 1080p video without issues, but encounter lag when playing another video on YouTube, it suggests a conflict between the streams. Using a GPU for one display and leveraging motherboard I/O for the other might help, or upgrading the CPU could resolve the matter. Currently both are connected, but they don't run together while videos play. The CPU stays at 40% or lower, whereas the GPU is often at full capacity.
