Problem with signing in to Gmail?
Hi. I'm having trouble signing into my Gmail account because it's sending a verification code to a number I don't recognize, even though I know my password. Is there another solution or have I lost my account? What should I do? I want to change my phone number when logging in. If I have two Gmail accounts, will they share the same phone number? How can I update it? Also, can I use a different email address for Gmail since I don't think that was requested?
Here is what is happening at the moment. I tried to log in today using mobile phone A. I entered the password and a I am told that a verification will be sent to number ****79. This is another phone mobile B. I click send and i get the message "

Please help me here. Is it because it is on another phone. google does not know my new phone number it has my old phone number on it's system. If I could get into my account I could make phone number changes.
did you use google login on a pc before? if you have created a recovery email, apply it to a pc.
is the old phone still functional? connect to wifi on the old phone.
if not, visit the following link: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7299973
if you haven't done that yet, next time avoid just changing the phone number.
I have never used my PC for this before. It has only been done on the phone. Does the verification need a different mobile device than the one I use to access my emails?
@PaulDesmond
My wife and I have shared and used a common telephone number (land line and mobile) and a single email address for many years on various accounts, patient portals, etc..
However, due to privacy and security concerns almost all of our accounts now require that we have different separate
login
accounts, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Even if we each have our own account number of some sort. Verification codes often being sent and requiring a response before we can access some account... We have worked through similar sign-in issues several times. Goes in circles...
No more "sharing" - which is/was for the most part just a matter of convenience.
We are old and mobile phones can be difficult to use: fonts too small, hard to type on those little keyboards, etc.. Plus it always seems that every update changes things and we need to rediscover and relearn how to do things. Sans any meaningful documentation or instructions. Much online is not correct nowadays.
Indeed, as above, we are paying much more attention to ensuring that we have "recovery" methods in place. We keep dual track of all accounts, logins, passwords, phone numbers, security words, etc..
And that family members all know where and how to find the information. Just in case.
Things are not simple anymore..... Plan accordingly.
the verification must come from a source that has already confirmed it on Google, not just checking gmail access.
I had access to my emails on the phone and exchanged messages, yet it stopped? It flagged suspicious activity, but it seems only me is affected. The only confirmation should come from the same number and phone I’m using. I can’t access the PC because it hasn’t been used before.
