I recently switched my laptop OS to Ubuntu 18.04.02. The main issue was that Ubuntu didn’t support the drivers for my network card (RTL8821). I resolved it by installing drivers from a GitHub repository, which worked on my home Wi-Fi. At college, the problem changed because the college Wi-Fi used 802.1x encryption, making it hard for the drivers to connect. Any suggestions on how to handle this? Feel free to share more details, and don’t worry—I’ll guide you step by step since you’re new to Linux. Thanks.

Do you understand the Wi-Fi standard your school employs? It should appear as 802.11(Ahref=...).

I think there might be a problem with your driver. On most laptops, it's best to switch the network card to one that the operating system recognizes natively.

You're correct, the issue likely lies with the driver. It can vary depending on the operating system. There aren't many specific recommendations since details are limited.

He mentions 802.11-Enterprise for connecting via WiFi using your Active Directory credentials. The wireless protocol isn't crucial here since the card supports up to 802.11ac.

My issue is that my laptop relies on an M.2 WiFi card labeled Key A, but none of those cards are available in the inventory.

I believe your institution is implementing WPA enterprise, so you should navigate to the advanced configuration and set it up accordingly.

I encountered some issues with my network card and the university's WPA enterprise network. It seems to depend on whether you need any certificates for the network. In my case, eduroam required the proper certificate, but you can skip this by checking the "no CA certificate required" option. Also, make sure the username and password you're using are correct. Cheers!
