Hi everyone, I'm trying to configure a NAS for media streaming and need reliable access from anywhere. I've set up a DDNS server and configured port forwarding on my router, which works fine when connected to my home network. However, using a mobile hotspot causes the connection to drop instantly. I think there might be something missing that I'm not seeing. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

Check if your device is part of a nearby network. If it is, opt for the local IP address rather than relying on DDNS.

Not as far as I thought. I disabled its WiFi to use the hotspot (which I linked to my PC for testing). I just tried it on the phone itself and connected to WiFi; the DDNS server directs me straight to the NAS, but when mobile data is off from the local network, the page times out. The same issue appears on the computer.

I considered adding more specifics about the process I followed. I wasn’t certain what the problem was, so I kept things simple. The NAS is a Thecus N3200, which is an older model but has been functioning well locally. I used its own setup instructions for FTP but had to refer to general guides to complete the steps. For my configuration, I disabled port blocking in my ISP’s account settings, redirected ports 21, 80 and 443 to the NAS’s internal IP, set up a DDNS via no-ip.com and entered it into my router, then configured the domain with its username and password. The link worked correctly and updated the IP address.
