Hey there, I just started building my first PC recently. I noticed that to reach the desired RAM speed, you usually need to enable the XMP profile in the BIOS settings. But after doing that and saving, the computer keeps trying to boot a few times before finally starting, and once it does, the RAM speed stays at 2133 MHz instead of the expected 3600. I have 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, a G.Skill Ripjaws, an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, a Gigabyte AORUS B550 Elite V2 motherboard, and a 650W power supply. If you have any advice, please let me know. Thanks! And sorry if my English isn’t great.

It might depend on your specific RAM model. Intel supports XMP while AMD uses EXPO for memory boosting. If your RAM isn’t rated for EXPO, it could fail. Also, do you have two sticks or four? Running four sticks can cause problems, especially with DDR4 but definitely works with DDR5.

I used a 5800x but stopped using XMP. I experienced random BSODs after trying it. I also attempted manual settings and had to reset the CMOS before the system would start.

1. Were the sticks packaged in a set of four or purchased separately?
2. Have you attempted to update the BIOS?

the ram arrived in pairs, and i didn’t attempt to upgrade the bios since i’m worried about making a mistake.

When ram sticks are purchased separately, compatibility issues may arise if the manufacturer altered the ICs later. The typical issue involves crashes or malfunctions when XMP is enabled. Usually, this can be fixed by manually increasing the RAM speed (XMP handles this automatically). As a precaution, inspect each stick for any defects. If a refund is possible, consider returning it and purchasing a higher capacity kit—like 2x16 or 4x8—preferably one that comes with the motherboard's QVL. For more details on RAM QVL for the B550 Elite V2 (Rev1.2, AMD Vermeer CPU), visit the provided link.

Thanks, I’ll check each stick this evening to ensure everything functions properly. If it works, I’ll contact the store where I bought them for guidance.
