Problem with Q9400 not overclocking... assistance needed
I found a YouTube tutorial showing how to boost the clock speed of Dell OptiPlex prebuilt systems by using the PAG chip model in a tool named "setfsb" or similar. It claims you can adjust the front-side bus clock, which in turn lets you push the CPU faster. My issue is that while others achieve significant boosts from 2.4GHz to around 3GHz, my CPU only climbs up to 2.72GHz after a short AIDA64 stress test. I’m trying to get closer to 3GHz but not quite there. Can someone advise me?
What holds you back is still unclear—maybe instability or perhaps the maximum allowed value.
You meant something about running a stress test after the CPU has been overclocked, not during the process. The result varies depending on the motherboard, not just the CPU. Running it won't always push speeds beyond the original ratings. You might also consider adjusting the FSB speed in the BIOS, though I'm not sure why you'd need a program for that.
Need higher voltage. Just keep in mind, it might damage the CPU if you provide too much.
It seems you're suggesting the issue might be due to excessive voltage or insufficient core voltage.
It's a Dell prebuilt unit, which means you can't modify it or adjust its performance settings.
It seems like you're facing a situation where adjustments aren't possible.
