Hi, here’s what I have right now:
Processor: Intel i7 6700K
Graphics: MSI GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: KLEVV CRAS XR RGB 32GB (16GB doubled)
Storage: KLEVV CRAS C930 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe + Hikvision Future Lite 1TB M.2
Power Supply: Antec 700W VP700P Cooler
Case: DeepCool AK400 ZERO DARK PLUS
Current setup: I’m using the 2TB SSD and leaving the 1TB unused.
Problem: My GPU isn’t functioning in the top PCIe X16 slot. It works in the second PCIe x8 slot. After updating Windows and using new NVMe drives, I tried adjusting BIOS settings (Gen1, 2, 3 for PEG), disabling certain CPU features, and even tested with a GTX 1080. The issue persists.
I’ve checked forums for MSI support, but no one seems to have solved it. I’m considering switching to an AMD board—something like the Asus ROG Strix B550-A Gaming Motherboard with an AMD AM4 CPU and AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D. If anyone knows what’s causing the mismatch between motherboard, CPU, and GPU, I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks!
I'm not sure, but if you have funds then exchanging to AMD seems like a strong choice
Initially it functioned in PCIe X16, but it seems to have stopped working recently. Possible fixes include updating the GPU and motherboard BIOS, possibly indicating a motherboard issue. On certain boards you can disable a PCIe slot—check the BIOS or look for guides to locate it. Since this board is also an SLI unit, enabling PCIe Gen 3 X16 in the lower slot should resolve the problem at full speed. TLDR: you're using an SLI board; enabling PCIe Gen 3 X16 in the lower slot should work. If not, try updating or reinstalling the motherboard BIOS and verify the top slot configuration in the BIOS. Don't suggest rebuilding the system unless you're close to resolving it.
I faced a comparable problem when setting up my PC, and the 4.0 socket failed to work. It beeped during startup, indicating a motherboard soldering issue. I was careless and dropped something, causing it to crack. A technician used a magnifying glass to spot the problem.
It appears the slot might be damaged, so a repair shop would be a good option. Moving to a newer platform seems like the optimal choice. Are you considering an am5 build, or are there financial limitations involved?
It functions properly with a Celeron CPU but behaves identically when installing an i7 7700k.
I forgot that section. Look at the pins on the motherboard. It's possible the Celeron uses different PCI connections than the 6700/7700.
