Hello everyone, I'm facing an issue with my recent setup. It includes a Gigabyte B650 Gaming X Ax Ryzen 7 7800X3D DDR5 32GB RAM module, a Kingston RTX 2080TI GPU, and a Thermaltake 700W power supply—all from previous systems. The main problem started right after assembly: the CPU LED flashes a solid red light even when the PC is off, and the system fails to boot. LEDs on the CPU and memory also blink alternately. I've tried many fixes—re-seating the CPU, booting without the GPU, using just one RAM stick, resetting CMOS, etc.—but nothing helps. Recently, I removed the board piece by piece and finally pulled the cables off the board one by one. When I disconnected the 9 ARGB fans (controlled via controller and SATA power), the CPU LED turned off and the PC booted normally. I initially thought the controller was faulty, so I replaced it with a new one. After that, everything worked again except when connecting the controller to the header. Then I unplugged the controller and it turned back on automatically. Testing with just a fan on the Argb header resolved the issue, and the PC booted successfully. Now I'm trying to figure out if the power supply was the culprit. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. It seems there might be two possible reasons. First, if your PSU is as old as the 2080ti, it could have worn out over time, and connecting the RGB controller might be too much for it. The 650W is the lowest recommended for a 2080ti. Second, the ARGB controller could be damaged and cutting power to protect your system. I’d check each fan individually—it might be a fan issue too. As you mentioned, some cheaper models have bare IC cards without a casing; they need proper mounting, similar to a motherboard.

Thank you for your input. The initial controller came from Lamptron. It also functioned well in my previous setup (i7 9700k: 32gb DDR4 3200mhz: ASUS ROG Z390F gaming) without any issues. The second controller is from deepcool. I also considered the power supply unit, but based on several sites where you can estimate power usage, a 700w should suffice.

needing to scroll text makes it hard to read—use regular font size. older, cheaper PSUs lose power over time and won’t perform the same after years. however, since it’s just the argb controller and you replaced it, I’d suspect a fan is causing the problem. take out all the fans from the controller and see if it still won’t start. if any of them are 12V RGB, you might be able to reverse the plugs and short the argb circuit. by the way, Lamptron has some questionable practices with AIDA64 licenses on hardware monitors—check out Derbauer’s latest video.

Curious about the continuation of the odd formatting style?

I'll check it in the coming days. Based on your explanation, it might be a faulty fan or power supply unit. I also suspected an issue with the PSU, but I wanted to confirm all details before purchasing a replacement.

It seems like a faulty RGB header on the fan or a misaligned pin configuration. A low-quality power supply might fail to deliver its rated power over time, possibly dropping output significantly within five years. It’s unlikely a TT would handle this issue, suggesting the problem lies with the fan’s wiring or a 12V fan installed upside down.

What exactly are you asking about a 12v fan? I only have 3pin argb 5v fans available on that controller. I plan to check each fan from the header up to figure this out. Initially, I'll test the controller by running it alone, without any fans connected.

You didn't mention your fan setup. If none of them causes the issue, it might be the power supply unit. How many fans were you using in your previous system?

Apologies for overlooking some fans. I had nine in the previous setup and plan to include them in the new design. The lamp controller was part of my earlier build, but I swapped it out for the DeepCool controller after thinking it was broken. The fans remain the same—nine units.
