Problem with PC starting despite connected GPU.
I assembled a new computer and removed the GPU from my main system to install it. The PC started up without the GPU but not with it connected to the PCI-E slot. I suspected a power supply issue, so I replaced the PSU and got no results. I installed the GPU on my son's machine, which also failed to provide power. I tested both PSUs on different motherboards but still faced problems. My son's PC booted normally without the GPU. I attempted to reset the CPU cooler battery, but I'm stuck and need advice. Each system has a power supply over 700 watts. All cables checked, GPU re-seated multiple times. Tomorrow I'll try another GPU. I'm running out of options.
I faced problems with several RX590s recently, sorry to tell you but they’re all dead. I’m not sure why, but a big batch arrived from various AIBs—Asus, PowerColor, Sapphire, etc.—all DOA RX580 and RX590 models. After my second return, MicroCenter staff started discussing it, even mentioning other units that should be returned via RMA. I appreciate the performance at the lower price point, but it’s definitely a hassle. I had one DOA, one failed after 1.5 days during a Forest Benchmark, another DOA, and now I’m on my fourth try—this time it seems to be holding up. I almost used warranty on the board and CPU without reason, which was a big deal. Thankfully, being near a MicroCenter helps a lot. You probably won’t face such issues elsewhere, but sharing this could help if you ever need a return or RMA.
This quality control looks really lacking, and the results seem disappointing. I'm glad I can catch up with MC soon—thanks for having one hour ahead. Apologies to the OP.
It's still alive. I can install it on my primary rig, and it will start up completely.
My idea is that since the RX580/590 model is nearing the end of its life, leftover parts from previous repairs sometimes function at the factory but aren't consistently reliable in real-world use. That’s just a theory—I’m not sure. I’m still unclear on this, but it seems similar to what happened with other devices. Also, after trying several different versions, I’d suggest avoiding an ASUS DUAL OC RX580, especially the loudest models (like those that make a vacuum sound), as they aren’t very dependable. I prefer the simpler PowerColor cards for better noise performance.
Checked another PCIe port on the board and considered updating the BIOS to the latest version.
It's a MITX board with just one PCI-E port. If it doesn't turn on, don't try to flash it.
Planning to test a fresh GPU tomorrow. As mentioned earlier, I installed it on two different motherboards and two separate power supplies. My primary setup uses the third motherboard, which performed well.
