Hello. Your friend recently installed new RAM from Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 16GB and tried some BIOS adjustments, but the system still reported a disk read error when booting. After changing a few BIOS settings, it didn’t resolve the issue. Eventually, he reset the BIOS to its default state. He suspects the problem might be related to switching SATA mode from AHCI to RAID, though he’s unsure how that could cause this. Since he doesn’t fully understand what those changes do, he ended up with a blank screen showing only the ASUS logo before an underscore blinked. Now he has his PC, but he’s not at home and wants advice. He has an i7-6700K CPU and an Asus Prime Z270P motherboard running BIOS version 1205. The old RAM was a single HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB stick (model hx426c15fb/8), while the new RAM is two 8GB units from Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200. Anyone know what might have happened? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the details with him. There’s no way to verify it directly without using a tool or manufacturer confirmation. He should ask the builder for the exact model or contact the seller for verification.

Open the boot menu (F8) and choose the 500GB drive manually

I just tested it on both the 500GB and 250GB models, but it only displays a blinking underscore before returning to the BIOS.

I just changed the RAM back to the old version and tried picking both drives in the startup menu. The outcome was the same as before.

Looking for USB drives with Windows? I can help you find options that include Windows installation media or allow you to create one.

The BIOS altered how drives are managed and shown to the operating system, which might have triggered a disk issue. Find the solution in the information provided!
