I've dealt with a peculiar problem that I resolved, though I'm not satisfied with the outcome. Others have probably encountered this and might have useful insights. The setup includes a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, ROG STRIX B650E-F, gaming PC with Corsair DDR 5, Gigabyte AORUS RTX 4080, and a 1000W Platinum power supply running Windows 11 Home x64.

The issue is that after installing the full NVIDIA driver from their website along with the NVIDIA app, my system appears to run at only 10 FPS on the monitor. The mouse movement lags, clicks are delayed, and game performance remains consistent regardless of the title. While the Steam FPS counter shows 120 FPS, the actual experience feels much slower. After a reboot and checking NVIDIA stats, the game reports 120 FPS but still feels sluggish.

Despite trying a fresh install of the NVM-E drive with updated BIOS/firmware, no improvements were seen. When booting from Ubuntu, everything worked smoothly, which is unusual. I noticed that using DDU to clear driver traces and then running NVCleanstall resolved the problem completely. This fixed all issues, including the inability to use the new NVIDIA app or take full advantage of DLSS.

However, I still face limitations with the latest driver versions, especially when trying to install updates. It seems my setup might be sensitive to the driver installation process. Have you come across similar situations? Would it help to reach out to Gigabyte for an RMA, or is this a persistent challenge with your current configuration? I'm also curious if the GPU itself could be experiencing issues only after a full driver update.

I haven't encountered this personally, but I'm using the newest drivers for 30, 40 and 50 series GPUs. I remember some early reports about performance drops when the Nvidia App was active, and the solution was to turn off certain features. It seemed like filters were left on even when unused, so the developers made them default off as a workaround. I don't know if they've added any updates since then. Absence of noise doesn't guarantee it's fixed, but it's unlikely to be the cause either. Without seeing it firsthand, it's tough to say more. If you'd like to recreate the situation, I could run some monitoring and check what tasks are running at that time to look for clues.

It was mainly about adjusting the Overlay and Filters settings. I think they were fixed some time ago, but not really. I tend to take a closer look at new drivers and NVApp updates each day. Early in the year things were tough, but recent releases seem smoother. When issues arise, I try recreating the scenario myself—changing settings like GSync, switching bit modes—to figure out what’s causing the problem.
